Picture of Peter Fletcher

Peter Fletcher

Peter Fletcher started composing whilst still at school, writing and directing music for several school plays and later working with the Lyric Theatre and Arts Theatre in his home town of Belfast, Northern Ireland.

It was at Magdalen College, Oxford that his training in composition began in earnest under the late Dr. Bernard Rose and Professor Edward Higginbottom. As well as the more traditional subjects, he specialized in both orchestration and the history of Jazz, and was particularly drawn to the theatre and revue scene.

Peter returned to Hereford as Head of Music at St. Mary's RC High School, Lugwardine. On the opening of The Courtyard Centre for the Arts, he directed the music for the opening programme of ‘Cabaret’ and ‘Bugsy Malone’. He also started working with the Hereford Big Band, which he now co-directs.

Peter now teaches Music and Music Technology at Hereford Sixth Form College and is a senior examiner in Music Technology for Edexel. He continues to write music for theatre, for choirs and for his jazz, blues and soul bands.
